Pollensa Wine Fair 2020

Mallorca's most exquisite cultural event : The annual Pollensa Wine Fair

Wine tasting at the Pollensa Wine Fair

In light of the current situation, this year's Wine Fair may not be taking place. However, we just don't know yet one way or another. As the moment everyone is staying at home for 2 weeks.

This year's event was meant to take place over two days on the 25th and 26th of April. Preparations were already underway and local restauranteurs planning their menus around this most exquisite cultural event

At the end of last year's event, Josep Bibiloni, president of L'Associació de Vi Primitiu, the organising body in charge of the Pollensa Wine Fair was pleased. Partipation is growing steadily every year and visitors seem genuinely interested in the Island's wines. Wine sales were also up, making this quite a serious event on the Mallorcan calendar.

La Fira del Vi 2020

This was going to be the XVII Edition of the popular Pollensa Wine Fair at the Cloisters of Santo Domingo in Pollensa old Town.

Saturday at 11am and remain open until 8.30pm. Sunday is only a half day, with the doors opening between 10am and 2pm.

The program included a series of guided wine tastings run by some of the participating wineries. On Saturday, the tastings would be held every hour between 11am and 5pm, with a lunch break between 2 and 3pm, while on Sunday wine tasting would be at 11 and 12am.

How the Pollensa Wine Fair began...

The first edition of the Pollensa Wine Fair was in 2004, a proposal by the Primitive Wine Association - L'Associació de Vi Primitiu -  in conjunction with the Pollensa Town Hall.

Initially conceived as a meeting place for wine traders and industry professionals,i t has grown over the years into a popular wine tasting event in its own right, with thousands of wine lovers descending on the Cloisters from all over the island, and the world, for two full days of wine tasting in magnificent surroundings in the heart of old town Pollensa.

Wineries showcased at the Pollensa Wine Fair

Last year's event hosted over 50 wineries, 35 Mallorcan wineries, 3 new wine producers joining the ranks and new editions from outside the Balearics; with 20 odd new Catalan wineries joining from the Priorat, specifically from the DO Montsant area. This was an interesting turn of events, pointing to a far more national event, and a whole realm of new wineries.

As soon as we have the list we will publish it here.

Island Vineyards and Wineries

Though not uniquely island based or even from the Balearics, the main exponents are local wineries. Mallorca's wine industry is doing rather well.

The Pollensa Wine Fair has been a very local event, concentrated entirely on the Balearic Islands wine industry. Some years have seen wineries from Menorca and Ibiza taking part and this year there is much expectation because of the addition of new wineries. Last year the fair collaborated with Catalan wine fair Fira del Vi de Falset which, was apparently the inspiration for the Pollensa fair.
